The Capital - Antananarivo
During our trip we visited the Capital Antanarivo, Northern Rural Madagascar and Island of Nosy Be.

Our observations and evaluations in many ways confirmed our expectations and in some ways helped us to have a
real understanding for the living and health care situation in Madagascar.

Visit to Antanarivo highlighted the vastness and the degree of poverty and it's ramifications. Our travels through
Antanarivo, including it's slums and surrounding villages demonstrated the living conditions of the common
malagasy people.

Below are some examples of the types of limitations challenges that the malagasy people face.
Antananarivo - March 2007

While the signs of progress and development, are visible throughout the capital our impression was that the
basic infrastructure and the support to meet the basic needs are yet to be met.

Sanitation, adequate nutrition, proper food handling as well as access to health care and education remains
limited to a minority.

However, whether through our meetings with the Minister of Health and director of Foreign Affairs or through
our experiences we observed an incredible energy of the malagasy people working towards an improved
quality of life.
