MHI, a nonprofit (501c3) organization, represents and recruits
professionals - volunteers from around the world who wish to make
positive difference for people in rural Madagascar.

All work of the western volunteers, including organization's management,
IT and logistical work of our projects is donated free of charge to the
malagasy people.

1. Humanitarianism: Maventy Health International is guided by the humanitarian principle: to
take all steps possible to prevent or alleviate human suffering.

volunteers regardless of race, religion or political affiliation and make decisions based on
independent assessments.
3. Professionalism: Maventy Health International’s volunteers are professional doctors,
nurses, health specialists, teachers, engineers, young professionals in training and other
international professionals who are in good standing in their professions. MHI volunteer's may
come from anywhere in the world.
4. Sustainability: Through training provided by the professionals deployed to Maventy Health
International’s projects, local medical staff and students will continue to reap the benefit of the
experience and expertise shared. Locally trained professionals are encouraged to continue to work
in either existing or newly build medical centers.
History:
n 1998, an entropeneur Ben Shipley, build a small clinic and a school in the village of Maventibao.
Over a decade of existence the local project was supported by a growing number of international
volunteers.
joined forced with His Excellency, Zina Andrianarivelo, the Ambassador of Madagascar to the
apolitical, non-religious organization with working to improve the health standards in the United
Nations, to establish Maventy Health International (MHI). MHI is a U.S-based non-profit, apolitical,
non-religious organization with working to improve the health standards in the Antsirinana province
through the provision of human, financial, technological, and educative needs resources. In the last
ten months, the organization has focused on evaluating the primary health needs in the region,
recruiting volunteers, fundraising, and networking with other organizations, NGO’s, and with
government agencies. Accomplishments so far include an increased support and trust of many of
the villagers (as evidenced through increasing demands for healthcare services), screening and
treatment of the most malnourished inhabitants, increased supplies brought to the program.

The Stop and Go program was developed with the intention of providing more comprehensive
approach towards the region’s needs which takes into account the character of the local
community, pilot-tested practices of other organizations including USAID, and the benefits of
telemedicine and tele-education towards improving social and healthcare infrastructure.
Chief Executive Officer of MHI, Martin Malachovsky M.D., MPH, will act as Chief of Party of the Stop
and Go program and oversee the various technical managers of the program’s target areas. MHI
secretary Rebecca Farber, M.D will oversee the U.S operations as well as will lead the
immunization initiative, children’s healthcare initiative and the STI/HIV programs. The in-country
program will be managed by Clovis Tohandray, who has led and has extensive experiences in
working with A.S.0.S, USAID and SANTENET. Kurt Grossman, CEO of DTNCares will adopt
responsibility for the overseeing development and implementation of telemedicine and tele-
education programs.
Maventy Health International is looking forward to implementing this three-part program in the
Diana region in 2008 as a means of assisting the MAP in reaching its target for 2012.
