Welcome to Maventy – Supporting a growing 100% volunteer based project in Madagascar.

As nearly 50 percent of its population is malnourished,reduction in malnutrition in the region is one of MHI’s primary goals.

Chronic child malnutrition is a well known and unresolved problem in Madagascar. 

August 2009; 16 month old girl weight 6 kg/ height 72 cm –chronically malnourished without treatment has grave prognosis for normal development. 

Our wireless connectivity at project site supports online malnutrition assessment software developed in collaboration with World Health Organization.

Our mobile application can provide instant growth percentile assessment for any child age 0-5. 

One of the international volunteers is educating both the local nurse and the parent about nutrition and child care.

An international volunteer is vaccinating a mother against tetanus.  Unfortunately, neonatal tetanus is still on the list of frequent causes of infant mortality in Madagascar.  The vaccination of pregnant women and women in childbearing age can easily prevent death due to neonatal tetanus.

The local nurse is vaccinating a child.  Common vaccinations given include polio, tetanus, hepatitis B and measles.

Breast feeding is encouraged for all mothers to reduce the infant mortality.

Dental exams frequently reveal very poor dentition which contributes to the reduced life expectancy seen in Madagascar.

Caring for women during pregnancy and family planning is also supported by MHI. 

Most people in the area live in primitive bamboo thatched huts.  Many families live on even less than per week.

Malaria remains a common cause of morbidity and mortality.

Housing for family of 5. Poverty and poor living conditions contribute to very low life expectancy.

Mosquito nets and some basic support can make an enormous difference.

Besides important prevention with malaria nets, rapid diagnostic kits aid in proper diagnosis and treatment.  

Rate of sexually transmitted diseases are very high. While HIV prevalence is still relatively low, screening is available.

Our first mobile clinic offers greater outreach.
